How to replace the Motorola GM340
The GM340 is out of production, but its fleets are still alive — and that’s reasonable as long as the stations are up and running. The question arises when part of the machines is eliminated: to buy the former in the work or to switch to a new one. We're going both ways honestly.
Way One: Leave the analogue
If there are up to two dozen cars in the fleet, one or two conversational groups and nothing but voice is necessary, there is nothing to change for. GM340 in good condition will survive more than one season, spare parts and accessories are available, any radiomaster makes repairs. It is easier and cheaper to buy the missing stations than to rebuild the system.
When buying a former in the work, look at three things: backlash in the antenna connector, the state of the tangent and the presence of a regular power supply cable. The protection of the body is designed for dust and splashes - it is impossible to keep the station under the sink stream.
The second way: go to the number
It makes sense when you go to one of three things: you don't have enough channels, you need to call a particular machine, you need to see where someone is.
DM2600 Direct replacement "one in one": the display, the same logic of work, the driver does not need to retrain. DM4401 When you need GPS, Bluetooth and trunking modes Capacity Plus and Connect Plus: the dispatcher sees the machines on the circuit, and half of the on-air conversations “are you far?” disappears.
The main thing is that you can move gradually.
The MOTOTRBO digital stations are in analog mode. So the park is translated in parts: new cars on the DM2600, the old ones remain on the GM340, the communication between them is stored on the analog channel. It is not necessary to change the entire park at once – this is the most expensive and most unnecessary scheme.
When the digital stations are more than half the size, they add repeater DR3000: it works in both modes and digitally serves two conversations in the band where the analog led one.
What not to do
Buying a UHF station to the VHF fleet and vice versa – the ranges do not talk to each other, this is not a setup. Set a "similar" antenna from a different range. And to transfer the fleet to a number for the sake of the figure itself, if there are enough channels: the winning will only be in the bill for the equipment.
What to specify before ordering
Range, number of machines and groups, is there a repeater, does GPS and address call need? With these four answers, we will assemble a set and say what to buy: antennae, power supply cables, hand microphone.
Compare your own positions to upgrade the park
Start with the exact model of the working station and the tasks of the new workplace. GM340 and DM variants are considered separately: compatibility with the existing system, configuration and kit contents are agreed before ordering. In the application, list the devices that need to be saved, replaced or added.
